Just like your car or motorbike, dampers and forks benefit from being serviced to ensure optimum performance.
Over time the structure of the oil in the dampers and forks breaks down as it is constantly being ‘sheered’ between the piston and shims with the friction converted into heat. Used oil affects the performance of the valves resulting in poor damping and lubrication. Also over time seals wear and become weak or damaged allowing oil contamination, leakage or reduced gas pressure.
A typical service will include disassembly, inspection of all working parts with replacement where necessary and new sliding bushes and seals (The parts that are active when with suspension movement). We can also revise the products to the latest specification where Ohlins have released an update. They are then reassembled with the best quality fluids using our vacuum rig to remove all air, charged with nitrogen and then dyno tested to check performance.
The dyno test is a vital part of the service. It basically works the damper through a set stroke at different shaft speeds to measure the amount of resistance it gives in compression & rebound directions. From this we can check for consistency and that the figures are correct for the application. We can also use the dyno to check the rate of springs if required.
Here at BG Motorsport we are an official UK Ohlins centre with factory trained staff fully qualified in servicing and repairing dampers. We carry an extensive stock of parts to keep turnaround times to a minimum.
Whilst we are an Ohlins Centre, we are also the Sachs Race Engineering UK Service Partner and service OEM Motorcycle suspension (KYB, Showa, WP etc) on and Off Road!
